GradeView Privacy Policy

GradeView LLC ("GradeView," "we," "us," or "our") operates the GradeView mobile apps for iOS and Android, the GradeView website, and the GradeView API. This policy explains what information is processed when you use GradeView, why it is processed, who receives it, how long it may be kept, and the choices available to you.

No GradeView account or login

GradeView does not require a GradeView account or login. The app does not ask you to provide your name, email address, phone number, contacts, precise location, photos, camera, or microphone. If you contact us for support or a privacy request, we receive the information you choose to include in that communication, such as your email address and message.

Public grade information

GradeView displays aggregated grade-distribution information obtained from colleges and universities through public records, public information requests, and other publicly available sources. GradeView is not intended to display individual student records.

GradeView API requests and app activity

The apps request grade information from https://api.gradeview.app/. Those requests may include the university you select, search text you enter, and course, department, professor, year, or semester parameters needed to return the requested information.

Like ordinary internet services, our API and infrastructure receive network and technical information needed to deliver and protect the service, including IP address, request time, requested path and parameters, response status, response size, and timing information. We use this information to provide requested results, operate and secure the service, enforce rate limits, investigate abuse, diagnose problems, and improve reliability. An IP address may reveal an approximate area, but GradeView does not request device location permission and does not use GPS or precise location.

Subscriptions and purchases

GradeView may be downloaded without charge and offers optional monthly and annual subscriptions. Apple processes iOS purchases through the App Store, and Google processes Android purchases through Google Play. GradeView does not receive your full payment-card details.

The app stores or processes the subscription product selected, purchase or subscription status, transaction timing, and information needed to unlock and restore Pro features. On Android, Google Play Billing is the authority for purchase and entitlement status. The Android app keeps minimal billing state on the device, including entitlement status, verification timestamps, and opaque purchase tokens needed to acknowledge and reconcile purchases. The app also keeps the free-search allowance locally on the device, including normalized successful query strings and the timestamps needed to avoid double-counting repeated searches during the rolling window. On iOS, StoreKit is the purchase authority and the app keeps local subscription, quota, prompt, and attribution state needed to operate the app.

RevenueCat

GradeView uses RevenueCat as a subscription-reporting and management service. RevenueCat processes subscription-related information on GradeView's behalf, including a pseudonymous App User ID associated with an app installation, device and app technical information, purchase tokens or receipts, subscription product and transaction history, entitlement status, and last-seen or related service timestamps. RevenueCat may also receive network-layer information such as an IP address when its service is contacted.

The App User ID is pseudonymous, not anonymous: it does not contain your name, but it can be linked to the subscription history for that app installation. Deleting and reinstalling the app may create a different identifier and does not by itself guarantee deletion of an earlier RevenueCat record.

On iOS, GradeView may ask an optional "How did you hear about us?" question. If you answer, the response is stored on the device and sent to RevenueCat with the App User ID for attribution analysis. You may dismiss the question and use GradeView without answering it. The current Android version does not present this survey.

Apple's privacy-preserving measurement

On iOS, GradeView uses Apple's SKAdNetwork to report a limited conversion milestone, such as first launch, a successful search, viewing the subscription screen, or completing a subscription purchase. GradeView does not request Apple's tracking permission, does not collect the advertising identifier, and does not use this information for cross-app tracking. Apple's system controls its aggregation and postback behavior.

How we use information

We process the information described above to:

• provide grade-search and viewing features;
• process, verify, acknowledge, restore, and manage subscriptions and Pro access;
• enforce the free-search allowance;
• maintain service security, prevent abuse, and enforce rate limits;
• diagnose errors and improve reliability;
• understand subscription performance and, where supplied voluntarily, acquisition source; and
• comply with legal, accounting, fraud-prevention, and dispute-resolution obligations.

Service providers and disclosure

Information may be processed by companies that help us operate GradeView, including Apple and Google for app distribution and purchase processing, RevenueCat for subscription reporting and management, and our hosting and network providers for the website and API. These providers process information under their own terms and, where applicable, on our behalf. We may also disclose information when legally required, to protect rights or safety, or in connection with a business transaction subject to applicable law.

GradeView does not sell personal information. GradeView does not use advertising SDKs, display third-party advertising, or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. GradeView does not use data to track you across apps or websites owned by other companies.

Retention

Information stored only on your device remains until it is reset, expires under the feature's rules, or you delete the app or its data. App-store providers keep transaction records under their own legal and operational requirements. RevenueCat retains subscription records under its agreement with GradeView and applicable legal requirements. GradeView's API and infrastructure logs are retained only as long as reasonably necessary for operations, security, troubleshooting, and legal obligations. Some information may remain temporarily in backups or security records after deletion.

Security

GradeView uses encrypted HTTPS connections for the app, API, website, and supported provider communications. We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards appropriate to the information processed. No system can guarantee absolute security.

Your choices and privacy requests

You may use GradeView without creating an account. You may decline the optional iOS acquisition-source question. You may manage or cancel subscriptions through the App Store or Google Play. You may clear locally stored GradeView information by deleting the app or clearing its app data, subject to app-store transaction records and provider records that remain outside the device.

To ask what information GradeView can identify about you, request correction or deletion, or ask a privacy question, email admin@gradeview.app. Include the RevenueCat App User ID shown in the iOS Privacy & Support screen when available. Android does not currently expose that identifier in the app, so contact us before deleting the Android app and provide any non-sensitive purchase/support details we reasonably request through the support process. We will verify and respond to requests as required by applicable law. We may be unable to locate a pseudonymous record without a usable identifier, and we may retain information where required for legal, accounting, fraud-prevention, security, or dispute-resolution purposes.

Children's privacy

GradeView is intended for college and university decision-making and is marketed to adults age 18 and over. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information to GradeView, contact us so we can investigate and take appropriate action.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as GradeView, its providers, or legal requirements change. We will post the revised policy and update its effective date. Material changes will be described rather than applied silently.
